Overview of AISI 431 Stainless Steel Plates:

The Chinese name of 431 stainless steel is martensitic stainless steel, Cr steel containing Ni, high mechanical properties can be obtained through heat treatment, and the corrosion resistance is better than 410 steel and 430 steel. 431 stainless steel corresponds to China's 1Cr17Ni2 and Japan's JIS SUS431.

431 stainless steel plate has high strength, but poor plasticity and weldability. The commonly used grades of martensitic stainless steel are 1Cr13, 3Cr13, etc. Because of its high carbon content, it has high strength, hardness and wear resistance, but its corrosion resistance is slightly poor. It is used for springs, steam turbine blades, hydraulic valves and other parts with high mechanical properties and general corrosion resistance requirements. It is used after quenching and tempering. Annealing treatment is required after forging and stamping.

431 stainless steel plate is a kind of martensitic stainless steel with a good combination of strength and toughness. It has good corrosion resistance to aqueous solutions of oxidizing acids, most organic acids and organic salts. It is generally suitable for the production of nitric acid, acetic acid, light industry, textile and other industries that require both toughness and corrosion resistance of shafts, piston rods, pumps and other parts.

Chemical Composition of 431 Stainless Steel Plates:

C: ≤0.20 Mn: ≤1.00 Si: ≤1.00 Cr: 15.0 ~ 17.0 Ni: 1.25 ~ 2.50 P: ≤0.04 S: ≤0.03

Note:

1. The single value is the highest value unless otherwise specified;

2. When used in some pipe-making processes, the nickel content of some types of austenitic stainless steel must be slightly higher than the value shown in the table;

3. At will;

4. The highest Ta content is 0.10%;

5. The highest content is 0.75%;

6. The highest content is 0.70%

Mechanical Properties of 431 SS Sheets & Plates:

Physical properties:

Tensile strength σb (MPa): quenching and tempering, ≥1080

Elongation δ5 (%): quenching and tempering, ≥10

Impact energy Akv (J): quenching and tempering, ≥39

Hardness: Annealed, ≤285HB  

Heat treatment specification and metallographic structure:

1) Annealing, 680～700℃ high temperature tempering and air cooling;

2) Quenching, 950～1050℃ oil cooling;

3) Tempering 275～350℃ air cooling.  

Metallographic structure: The structure is characterized by martensite.

Delivery status: Generally, delivery is in the heat treatment state, and the type of heat treatment is specified in the contract; if it is not specified, the delivery is in the non-heat treatment state.

Product characteristics:  Used as parts, containers and equipment with high resistance to corrosion by nitric acid and organic acids.
