Overview of Custom 465 Stainless Steel:
Custom 465 stainless steel is a high-quality smelted maraging steel. Custom 465 stainless steel is the best combination of strength and fracture toughness among PH stainless steels seen in the market today. Custom 465 is used for aircraft structural components, such as engine assemblies, aircraft flap guides, actuators, landing gear components and similar components.
In fact, the alloy was developed in response to the aviation industry's demand for reliable materials, which will require minimal maintenance and maintain aviation flight for 30 years or more. Custom465 stainless steel may become an upgraded product of alloy steel that needs to be plated with cadmium or chromium because it does not require these environmentally damaging plating.
Chemical Composition & Mechanical Properties:
Carbon C: ≤0.05 Manganese Mn: ≤1.00 Silicon Si: ≤1.00 Chromium Cr: 14.0~16.0 Nickel Ni: 5.0~7.0
Phosphorus P: ≤0.03 S: ≤0.03 Copper Cu: 1.25~1.75 Molybdenum Mo: 0.5~1.0 Niobium Nb: ≥8*%C
Solution annealing: heat to 1024℃～1052℃, keep for 1.5h, and cool quickly. In order to achieve the best aging effect, water quenching is the first choice. Cus-tom450 is generally delivered in a solution annealed state at the factory, and then ready for use or subsequent age hardening treatment.
Custom 465 Stainless Steel can be cold and hot worked with the following treatments:
Hot working – solution anneal before hardening, then heat to 1850-2000° F (1010-1093° C) and air cool.
Cold working – Alloy 465 can be readily cold formed by drawing or rolling thanks to its low annealed yield strength and low work hardening rate.
Application:
Custom 465 Stainless Steel has been used in advanced golf club panels, aerospace, medical equipment, weaponry, light weapons, hand tools and other applications. It can even be used in the world's fastest (175mph) offshore racing boat screw shaft .
